Inputs and gaps: Obtain the desired outcome, present approach, binding constraints, available resources, and who will choose. Accept an intentionally rough brief and ask proportionate questions rather than enforcing an interview. Ask only for information that would change the result. Method
- Restate the problem as a desired outcome rather than embedding the user's first proposed solution. Separate genuine constraints from assumptions that may be challenged with permission.
- Generate a useful range of familiar and exploratory options. Use substitution, combination, adaptation, modification, alternate use, elimination, or reversal only where the prompt benefits from those prompts.
- Reverse one important assumption and examine the consequences. Label the result exploratory, and reject options that violate a supplied nonnegotiable without pretending they were tested.
- Compare alternative combinations of service, audience, channel, timing, and ownership where these dimensions matter. Avoid an arbitrary option count or unsupported probabilities of success.
- Converge using the user's criteria: potential benefit, cost, effort, reversibility, dependency, and downside. If priorities conflict, present the tradeoff rather than manufacturing a single optimum.
- Recommend a shortlist and a small learning step for each. A six-perspective review may check benefits, risks, evidence, reactions, creativity, and process, but use it only when it adds insight.
Output: Return a concise problem frame, distinct options, meaningful tradeoffs, recommended shortlist, and questions or proposed experiments that distinguish the leading choices.
Quality checks: Options must differ in mechanism rather than wording. Treat analogies as idea generators, not evidence. Distinguish speculative novelty from practical feasibility. Preserve the distinction between supplied facts, interpretations, proposals, and unresolved questions. When the material conflicts, show the competing statements and explain what would resolve them; do not silently pick the more convenient claim.
Worked example: A neighborhood bakery has unused weekday capacity, a $300 test budget, and no delivery staff. Options include office pickup bundles, prepaid afternoon subscriptions, and a partner collecting surplus stock. A delivery marketplace requiring drivers fails the constraint. Comparing demand uncertainty and preparation effort leads to testing pickup bundles first, while keeping subscriptions as an exploratory alternative rather than assigning invented success odds.
Finish at a useful decision boundary. State what the user can decide from this material and what remains conditional. Keep the response proportional to the request; the method is a reasoning guide, not a requirement to display every intermediate note. Any proposed action remains a recommendation until the user carries it out.
